Epidural for Migraine?

I just had an MRI. Shows arthritis in the cervical spine. I’m wondering if that is what is triggering migraines. The doctor recommended the epidural. Not sure what I should do. If I don’t do that, I can try muscle relaxants. Anyone ever had an epidural for migraines?

  1. Hi ,

Thank you for sharing that with us. I've not had an epidural for migraine, but believe it will be temporary relief.

It's not uncommon for neck issues/pain to trigger a migraine attack and be a symptom of a migraine attack. I am sorry you are going through this.

Will you let us know what you decide?

    1. my husband had the epidural shots in his neck for migraine and it triggered an attack the became intractable. It was not a good experience for him, but it is something you have to carefully consider before doing. Cheryl migraine.com team

      1. Oh my goodness. That's frightening. How long did that last? I will definitely talk to the doctor before I do this and see if he has seen that response very often. I plan on having it done on October 16. I'll let you all know what happens.

      2. It lasted for more than a year. He started on Emgality and that has helped tremendously with the pain aspect of the migraine, but he still experiences prodrome and postdrome effects from migraine daily. Please keep us in the loop with your treatment. Cheryl migraine.com team

    2. I had an epidural around cervical vertebrae on October 16. I had a migraine the next morning, but it went away after taking meds. So far, no other migraine since October 17. Fingers crossed.
