Finding migraine medication that works or finding one that is within a budget

I was wondering if anybody in the community has had a hard time finding medication for migraines that work where you don't have to take something with it like Excedrin migraine, the last time I saw my primary care doctor she gave me some sample packs of something called nurtek ODT and because I'm with Care Plus I have to stick with medicines that are within my plan and I called to just see what it would cost for the nurtec o t t and they told me it would cost me over a thousand dollars that I had to find something within my plan has anybody ever heard of something called sumatriptan that's what I take but I have to take like Excedrin migraine with it to actually have at work has anybody ever had to do that

  1. I take sumatriptan as well. Sometimes it works great, other times not so great. I tried the nurtec samples and the first time I took it with the sumatriptan (doctor told me that was safe) and I swear I felt higher than a kite! Next time I just took the nurtec and was very impressed with it. In fact I’m hoping my insurance will cover it when I go in for my check up. I have heard it has been approved for preventative medicine now. Hopefully that’s true!

    1. Thanks for sharing! Yes, it is true Nurtec is also approved for migraine prevention. Good to hear you find it beneficial. There is a savings program from the maker you may be qualified for. Here is that information;

  2. Thank you for reaching out and joining the conversation. Living with migraine disease is challenging and finding the right medication can be a long trial and error I'm sorry to say.
    It's truly outrageous how expensive medications are. The company that makes Nurtec has a savings program you might qualify for. Let me share that information with you here; https://www.nurtec.com/savings?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=nurtec%20savings%20card&gclid=CjwKCAjwkaSaBhA4EiwALBgQaLFs3AkD0LUhhLK_W_dUxpbMNyNhAUNhmM87WyH_ySEzCOl8TK3pMhoC6hIQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

    Try not to get discouraged! There are over 100 medications, supplements, devices, complementary therapies and lifestyle modifications that can be used to treat migraine disease and most of us use a combination of things, I do. And here's the thing - if we have more than four migraine attacks a month it's time to discuss migraine prevention with the doctor. Do you fall into this category?
    Looking forward to hearing from you, Nancy Harris Bonk, Patient Leader/Moderator Migraine.com Team

    1. I started taking sumatriptan and so far it's been working. But I'm also taking bc powder and that works
