migraine an PNES

Does anyone have non epileptic seizures? I have been diagnosed with PNES and vestibular migraines. I also have absence seizures. Ive had mri's ct scans, and eeg's. Everything is normal. I have olfactory hallucinations as well. This episode of smelling burnt exhaust fumes has lasted for a week now. I have other type smells too..all burnt. I dont understand the difference between a migraine aura and a seizure aura. I have so many of the same symptoms of each and I am so confused as to what my true disorder is.

  1. I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with these symptoms, it's unsettling and challenging for sure. Because I know it can be so helpful to hear from other's firsthand experience, I'm sharing with you this article that has a great discussion of fellow community members sharing their experiences that you might find really helpful and relatable. I hope it helps!

    1. Understandably, there is confusion, . In one of our articles on this site, The study Coleman et al. found olfactory hallucinations are "an uncommon but distinct manifestation of headache disorders." https://migraine.com/blog/migraine-symptoms-olfactory-hallucinations Looking for answers to why I had a prolonged burnt smell, it was a surprise to learn that experiencing a burning smell before a seizure is often considered an "aura," which is a sensory warning sign that a seizure is about to occur. Never having a seizure I was baffled. Then I learned that a burnt smell could also be a symptom of migraine aura. So I understand that similar symptoms of both chronic conditions may be confusing for you. You may have both - have you discussed your concerns with your physician? He would be the best to discuss your concerns with. I certainly hope others chime in bc this is an important issue to discuss, and having explanations would be beneficial.
