Migraine Basics: Finding the Right Care

We want to get to know you! Our Migraine Basics forum series features different questions for our community to learn more about each other's lives and journeys with migraine.
What has been your experience with doctors, neurologists, and other migraine specialists? What are some tips you have for others when it comes to navigating conversations with healthcare professionals? All perspectives are welcome here!

  1. I see a neurologist and his PA for my care. I see them every three months for Botox and once a year for a routine checkup on my life with migraine. I message them as needed by me through a secure portal in our healthcare system.

    1. - having patient portals set up is a great asset to the patient. I find it simplifies my path to and through therapy and relief. Thanks for sharing what works for you. Thoughtfully, Rebecca (team member)

  2. Primary doctor, mainly. I have been so disappointed with the doctors I have seen who don’t know any more than I do

    1. We understand your frustration. Many times patients do not find the treatment they need due to healthcare barriers, misconceptions, and just plain inexperienced biases. I am glad you had your PCP to turn to in times of need. Hoping your treatment plan is helping and you are finding relief. Rebecca (team member)

  3. I see a neuro, my PCP, and a pain clinic. Between the 3, my PCP and pain clinic provider are doing more to try to get better control. I’ll be adding a cardio doc to the mix because my team thinks I also have POTS-another dx with the same symptoms.

    1. Very sorry to hear you are adding a new diagnosis to the mix. It's difficult to get a proper diagnosis/es when symptoms of diseases are similar. It can be a horrible disadvantage. I do hope that you are being treated appropriately and that you find relief. Thanks for sharing. Rebecca (team member)

  4. Neurologist - We keep trying different medications.

    1. I'm in the same boat. I feel like I've tried at least 20 meds with minimal benefit. How are you doing finding relief from migraine disease? Thanks for sharing. Rebecca (team member)

    2. I hope you come across the right one(s) very quickly! Wishing you a pain free day, Tracy (Team Member)
