Migrainous Vertigo

Hi
I was diagnosed with Migrainous Vertigo in 2018. Horrible attacks were happening. The intensity of those let up last couple years.
BUT 5 days ago I quickly started with a Migraine and intense vertigo with nausea.
Each day it has lessened. BUT this morning I got bad Vertigo attack with a minor headache.

Is this normal that the attack lessens and feel like you're getting better BUT bam, intense vertigo and slight headache comes back? Like a rebound or boomerang or something?

Also, does anyone find their migraine affects ability to focus and mind can't find the words?

I find I'm a noodle for pete sake.

Thank you for listening.

  1. Hi there. So glad you wrote in to share some of your journey with us. It sounds like it's been upsetting to experience this resurgence of attacks, for sure. The intensity of the vertigo-related migraine sounds awful. Glad you sought a diagnosis for those 4 years back.

As to what occurred 5 days ago - first, I will clarify that we are not medical professionals here so I can't diagnose you in any way here. However, I will say that anytime we hear community members sharing about a way that their condition has changed or is presenting differently, we strongly encourage them to pursue a medical evaluation. Just to clarify, had you ever had the nausea before? If you are now experiencing what feels like a new round of the same type of attack you had previously, there could be countless reasons this is occurring. Environmental changes, hormonal shifts, stress, weather, aging - there are a lot of things that can cause migraine to reemerge in our lives after it's been dormant for a window of time.

The question of brain fog (inability to focus) and aphasia (difficulty finding words) are both well-documented components of migraine. Here is a good resource on those topics that you might find will resonate with you: https://migraine.com/living-migraine/aphasia-brain-fog. Be sure to check out the comment section following the article as our community members always have a lot of great information to share.

We are here for you and in this with you. Please know you are not alone and reach out to us for information or support anytime. So glad you're with us. Warmly- Holly -migraine.com team.

    1. Thank you Holly. I knew medical professionals aren't available. I was commenting and figured someone would give their feedback on their experiences. I appreciate that you added the link as it will help and then I'll look for members comments!

      1. I'm sorry to hear about what you are going through. As Holly has said we are not able to give medical advice as we are not medical professionals. However, I would like to share that I have both vertigo and brain fog/aphasia and know how difficult and frustrating it can be. Have you had brain fog/aphasia since 2018 or is this a new symptom? This is definitely something we'd strongly encourage you to speak with your doctor about. Many people can relate to what you are saying, myself included! Every person is different and has their own story. Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope you are able to find some answers/relief soon.
        In Solidarity,
        Kim (Team Member)

        1. Sorry you suffer too with it all. Yes brain fog during the major bouts a few years back. But several months ago finding the right word(s) in conversation is frustrating and wonder if it's migraine related. I have an annual follow-up with my PCP will be asking about it. Thank you Kim.

        2. So glad you plan to discuss this with your doctor. Any new symptom is always worth bringing up, especially the neurological kind. I thought I'd just ask if you are taking any new medication. There are several types of medications that can cause aphasia as a side effect. Thinking of you- Holly (migraine.com team).

      2. I have been on new medications for Congestive Heart Failure since December 2021. Outside of that nothing new prescribed or increased since. Thank you for asking

        1. @waves16 Hi there. I can't recall if I've brought this up to you already, so please forgive me if this is redundant -- we have a site like this one for people that have congestive heart failure. Maybe they will have additional insight to add to your situation. If you want to visit, the address is www.Heart-Failure.net. I hope you can get to the bottom of this, vertigo really is terrible. All the best to you! -Melissa, migraine.com team
