Nurtec

I have had chronic migraines for over 30 years. When my preventive medications stopped working, a new physician told me about nurtec and told me it was a "game changer."
I was reluctant. Nurtec is a medication that prevents and treats a current migraine. I was confused as to how that was going to work. However, I tried it anyway.
When I took the medication, it made my chest feel really heavy and a little short of breath. However, like any migraine sufferer, we do ANYTHING to take away the pain. Then the nausea came and did NOT go away. I have never been so nauseous in my entire life. I took this medication for 5 days. It helped with the migraines a little bit, but I still need to take a Tripan drug to get rid of the migraine.
I had to eventually stop taking it. It took about 3 weeks for the medication to get out of my system as I continued to be extremely nauseous for that entire time.
Do any of you take Nurtec? I hear such good stories, but is that just commercialized? Are there really success stories?
I would have a daily migraine if I did not take preventative medications. Maybe it is just not for people with migraine such as mine.

  1. Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience with us. I'm sorry Nurtec made you so ill. We've heard good and not so good stories about this medication and I understand how frustrating it is to get our hopes us to no avail.
    Please don't lose hope, there are over 100 medications, supplements, devices, complementary therapies and lifestyle modifications that can be used to manage migraine and most of us use a combination of these - I sure do!
    I wonder if it's time to reach out to a doctor who is a true expert in treating migraine and headache disease. These doctors are different from general neurologists as they are certified in headache medicine, all neurologists are not. General neurologists may be fine doctors but have a hard time being experts in one area because they treat many conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's and more. A true migraine/headache disease doctor treats migraine and headache all day, every day. Here is more information on how these doctors are different and how to find one;
