Has anyone had any luck getting their headaches or migraines treated by physiatry? I've seen a number of specialities and regularly see a neurologist and primary care doctor, but I think it would probably be good to see a physiatrist as well.

Hi oliwankenobi,
Thank you for your question. Migraine is thought to be a genetic, neurological disease, not a psychiatric disorder. Now having said that, many experts believe having a therapist or psychiatrist on our medical team is a good idea. Learning how to cope with a chronic illness can be difficult, I know it is for me. My counselor has helped me learn coping skills to deal with it.
Do let us know how you make out,
Nancy

My physiatrist (I assume we are talking about physiatry, no psychiatry) does my Xeomin injections and helps to navigate the neck and shoulder pain from my neck arthritis and its affect on the migraine. He is great!
