Migraine post covid

Question of advice: Now having Covid 2 weeks ago, I went to my neurologist after having to cancel an apt. She said Covid can pause migraines. I started B2 6/24 and had a Botox touch up then after an unusually bad month on Botox. I got excited that this is why the migraines got better again but now I have no idea why. I had one migraine 6/28-7/19. I am so grateful but also now unsure if Botox/B2 is even helping? Any tips?!

  1. Nice to hear from you! I'm sorry you had Covid. Are you recovered now?
I wish I could answer this one, but it may very well be the nature of migraine - it can ebb and flow.
It's not uncommon to have a bad month with Botox, I sure have. It's when flares start creeping up past our "normal" frequency things can get worrisome. I know I try very hard not to panic when I have a bad month, and so far I've been the same except for a few months since 8/16.

    1. Tysm! Thankfully I have recovered other than this horrible cough. I was really really sick. 4.5 days of fever, upset stomach BUT no migraines!!! Can you explain your bad botox months? I get 4-5 on botox per mo and occasionally 6. I had 7-8 in June and not many days of breaks in between. Was needing 2 Ubrelvy as opposed to 2 and sometimes Nurtec did not work which 9/10 times it does. Same for Ubrelvy. I hope it was the weather but this really worried me. It started right from injection time on 5/31 until 6/28. I got Covid on 7/6.

      1. I understand being worried about an uptick in migraine frequency. When I have a "bad" month it usually is in the form of more frequent attacks. They typically respond well to sumatriptan, especially since being on Botox, it seems to be a matter of increased frequency, rather than no responsiveness to acute treatments. Did that make sense?
Try not to get to worried - migraine is challenging and it's not uncommon to have a bad month or two while on Botox. Let me know what you think, OK?

    2. Tysm you are so comforting. I was needing 2 Ubrelvy instead of 1 so that got concerning. I’ve only been on Botox for 2 years so I have been lucky to say that most of my months have been pretty good. Just hoping this was a fluke.

      1. My fingers are crossed for a fluke as well!! I had my Botox today - you know that excited feeling for relief! I did medicate with Tylenol beforehand, which the approval of my doctor, and that seemed to help with the pin pricks.

      2. I’m glad it went well. That’s a good idea!

    3. Hi mk -- glad you are through the worst of your time with covid. So sorry it found you! I do want to make you aware that, during the height of the pandemic, we did see a large number of posts from people who saw an increase in migraine severity or frequency after either a covid vaccine or a covid infection. We also had some people say they experienced a pause. Everyone's experience is so unique, so I wouldn't panic or assume anything is permanent. <3 Just keep it in the back of your mind that you may see things change for a while because of covid. We're here for you, keep us posted! -Melissa, migraine.com team
