New migraine medication Qulipta

Hey everyone! So I’ve been a migraine suffer for the last 12 years. I have a migraine every day and it’s taken over my life to say the least. I’m always researching new medications because I’ve tried everyone on the market. When I heard about Quilpta it sounded to good to be true. I wanted a daily migraine medication with little or no side effects and this fit the description. It took months to get approved and then once it did it was going to cost $1,200. Long story short I finally got it and it didn’t cost me a penny! All this seems to good to be true. Am I finally possibly going to get the help I have been dying to get for years!!!! I’m almost in tears thinking about what a migraine free life could be like. What that could mean for me, my daughter, and my husband. I don’t want to get my hopes up to much but I am trying to think positive. Has anyone tried this medication yet? Has it worked? If so is it Better to take it at night or in the AM. I’m starting it tomorrow at 30mg 🤞🏻🤞🏻.

  1. Thank you for sharing this with us. So good to hear you were able to access the savings program, that's a relief! Qulipta is a new migraine prevention medication you can read more about here; https://migraine.com/qulipta-atogepant. Seeing as it's so new we don't have a lot of input from our community members yet. We'd love to hear how you make out with it.
Has you doctor suggested when to take it? If so I would follow his orders, if not, please reach out to him for a better picture on when to take it. My fingers are crossed too!

    1. So, you’ve been on it a few weeks…. Any updates? I will be asking by neurologist about it at my next appointment, next week and am curious if it’s worth the fight. I am on Medicare so I don’t qualify for any savings programs and I know Medicare will fight like hell to avoid paying. Thanks in advance

      1. Yes, I have found that to be the case! Unfortunately I have some meds that I can not ever come off of so I am also limited in my ability to shopping around . Medicare is ridiculous and it honestly makes me if more frustrated in the fact that this is how our country treats our elderly (obvs. They are the majority of people of Medicare), while sometimes I can pay out of pocket (although not this time … the quilipta is over $1000 for 30), most of the elderly are on fixed incomes and when I am in line with them at the pharmacy I just want to cry.

      2. I am SO with you on this! It truly is outrageous. I'm literally being made to pay far more on medicare than I did on private insurance for the premium alone and then the medications that are not covered makes the whole thing a ridiculous exercise in futility and, I fear, bankruptcy. I do think because the system is set up for older people, we younger folks who are forced on it early, are uniquely screwed by Medicare as it's not tailor-made for us, but the elders are hurt in different ways by a system that doesn't seem to really be helping anyone. I've been trying to call SS for months now and cannot get through. It's both infuriating and heartbreaking. Ugh. So sorry you're dealing with this as well! With you in frustration! 2. I’ve been on it two weeks. Unfortunately I haven’t noticed any difference, but I’m still on a low dose it goes up to 60mg I’m just on 30mg. Also I get the worst migraines during my time of the month which is now so I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. The plus side is very minimum side effects and I’m not experiencing any which is great and not usually the case for me. I’m going to give it a full month then my doctor said we can go up to 60mg. I’ll keep you posted!
