Topamax side effects

Hi all,

I started on Topamax about 3 or 4 weeks ago for chronic migraines, after trying almost every other preventative medication.

So far it is not working. I've had pins and needles in my feet since I started which was bearable as it came and went - but now I have it in my face, which is not.

Will the pins and needles go away? Will Topamax start to work? I am also scared about glaucoma (the pins and needles around my eyes and cheeks makes this something that's in my mind all the time) .

What to do? I don't want to constantly nag my Neuro. I don't want to keep taking it if it's not going to work and just cause me extra suffering.

  1. I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling to find the right treatment that will bring you relief. It sounds like Topamax is not giving you the result that you wanted - it hasn't brought the relief yet and it's comes with side effects. We unfortunately can't give medical advice, but honestly when it comes to medications, your neuro is the best person to connect with. You could also consider reaching out to your pharmacist. They have a massive database on pharmaceuticals and they might be able to tell you typical timeframe of when you can anticipate results and address some of your other questions. I hope you get answers soon! Keep us posted on how it goes.
