Vyepti Weight gain

Hi everyone.

I have seen the posts about CGRP inhibitors causing weight gain. I fear I sadly am experiencing this side effect specifically with Vyepti. I exercise 5-6 days/week (strength training + cardio), monitor my steps (10000 daily), and track my calories (1200cal per day) yet I have gained about 20 pounds. Has anyone else noticed weight gain with Vyepti? I have not seen any published data as of yet.

  1. - Thanks so much for sharing this information. Because Vyepti is relatively new, we don't have a lot of feedback on its efficacy or side effects from our community yet. Here's one link that may prove interesting to you: https://migraine.com/forums/starting-vyepti. Hopefully others from our community may chime in with their feedback. Sounds like you are so careful with diet and exercise that, if this is the only thing you've changed and you're not facing hormonal changes, it may be indeed to blame. Definitely would be worth discussing with your doctor. Is the treatment helping with your migraine frequency/ severity? Warmly, Holly (migraine.com team).

    1. Thank you for replying. Yes, I had a significant reduction in number of migraines. I had 3 infusions. I went From about 9 per month to 1 or 0. However, the weight gain will likely make me seek another option. It is the only thing that I could see being the culprit at this point, but I was curious to know if anyone else had a similar experience.

      1. Yes. I tried aimovig (had other side effects) and Emgality (with not much control and with some weight gain, but not as significant).

      2. Interesting- sounds like you've really been through (and continue to be on) a journey of trying many treatments. I thought this article may resonate with you on that very topic: https://migraine.com/living-migraine/whack-a-mole-chasing-freedom-from-pain. What's next in your journey in terms of treatment ideas? Thanks again for sharing your experience with Vyepti- I hope we start hearing from more community members about their experience with this treatment. Very helpful that you did so. Warmly, Holly (migraine.com team).

    2. You are certainly not alone, Reign. I wanted to add that if you're interested, it would be a good idea to report your weight gain to the FDA. Patient feedback is so important when figuring out what's next for these medications -- at the very least, more research into why it's happening and see if it's more widespread. Here's the link to make a report, the process is a quick one: https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/medwatch/index.cfm

Take good care of yourself! -Melissa, migraine.com team
