Weight Control with Basilar Migraine

Hi,

I've been recently diagnosed with basilar migraine by a migraine specialist. I've been symptomatic for eight years but switched neurologists three months ago when the disease went chronic. It's been chronic approaching five months. A gradually increasing dose of topiramate appears to be helping.

My issue is difficulty losing weight. I'm 5 ft 7 in and had weighed 163 after taking years to lose 30 lbs. I find it's close to impossible to lose weight because hunger is one of my biggest triggers (that and stormy weather). I also get a bad case of the munchies during an episode. Needless to say, this chronic episode has resulted in weight gain (15 lb) due to the need to eat to mitigate symptoms and food cravings.

Anybody else have this issue and any ideas on how to control my weight better despite migraine effects on cravings and the trigger effect of hunger?

Thanks.

Tom

  1. Hi rishaya,

    Thank you for your question and being part of our discussion forum - we're glad you're here! I am sorry you've been having a difficult time, I understand how frustrating that it.

    This probably isn't the best topic for me as I've battled being overweight most of my adult life. I can tell you when I exercise on a near daily basis, for me that's walking, I seem to do better at weight loss. I've reduced my intake of sugar and am mostly gluten free.

    I can give you a few links that may be helpful;

    I hope others will be along shortly to share their experiences with you.

    Keep us posted on how you are doing,
    Nancy
