"In answer to the question “How am I feeling?” Not so great. Woke up with a migraine this morning. That doesn’t happen very often, but when it does, it usually means the day is likely going to be a bad one.
I hadn’t been active on this site for quite a while, because I had been almost migraine free, while on a combination on Topiramate & Quilipta. It was GREAT, & lasted about 2 years.
In the past 6-8 months, I started having them again, quite significantly, meaning that I’ve had to take the Norco & go to bed, light blocking curtains closed, etc.
I’ve texted my neurologist & he doubled the Quilipta. It’s been about 3 weeks on the higher dose & I’ve seen any change. Fortunately, I have an appointment whim next week.
Here’s the thing, though, that I wonder if anyone has had any experience with. I’m currently wearing a Holter Monitor (constant heart monitor) because my Smart Watch has been telling me that my heart rate drops very low, mostly at night, several times a night, to below 45. Beats per minute, for 10 minutes or more each time. I just referral to cardiology also, but they won’t see me until the study is complete, is another week or so.
My question to everyone is, has anyone ever had migraines which were found to be cardiac related issues? What happened about that? Did you have a pacemaker put in? Did that resolve your migraines?
I would definitely appreciate some response on this, as I’m thinking I’m going down a very unusual path. And, if you add the fact that I have a history of having 9 deep vein clots ‘& am on 2 blood thinners, it really gets complicated.
Anyway, thanks for reading all this & any help you can give me.
Sincerely,
Ruth "
Hi Ruth
You bring up a very interesting question about migraine and cardiac related issues. While I don't have any personal experience or specific knowledge in this area, I did find this abstract about those with migraine with aura being at higher risk for cardiovascular events and disease, https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10422873/. Hopefully the Holter Monitor gives the cardiologist some helpful information so you can know where to go from here. When you meet with the cardiologist I hope they can also help answer some of your questions about any link of migraine to your heart rate or cardiovascular complications as well.
In the meantime, you can try adding your question to our forums, https://migraine.com/forums. That might help get a few more community members to see your question and (hopefully) give their experience and input.
Sending you gentle hugs. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
