Migraines and COVID Vaccination

I have suffered from an average of 2 migraines per week for the last 25 years. These migraines are usually triggered by various foods but sumitriptan works well at relieving them once they have started. However, I have just gone 40 days without even a hint of a migraine.

In the previous 25 years, I have only twice gone 10 days without one. Looking at my diary, I note that my last migraine was the day after my second COVID vaccination. Could there be a link between vaccination and my migraine relief?

I would be interested to know if anyone else has experienced such relief post vaccination.

I have to say that the only information we've received so far relating to migraine and the COVID vax relates to the way it seems to have caused a potential uptick in attack frequency in some. I'm uplifted to hear that it's done the opposite for you, potentially. I hope we'll hear the same from others now that you've started the conversation! Hi, Nick! I'll dig in the archives to see if I can find it, but I do remember just one story like yours. The poster shared that they experienced a sudden period of complete migraine relief during the days they were fighting COVID itself (the disease, not the vaccine). And as Holly noted, we have had many users share they've had worsening migraines after the illness or the shot. So it seems likely there is some degree of connection, but we can only speculate. There is a section in the middle of the article which talks about some potential effects of the vaccine on those with migraine, but none of these have been scientifically proven yet. Hi Nick, I have not noticed any reduction in my migraine frequency, but I’m happy that you have! I was curious to ask you which vaccination you received? I got the Phizer myself & just wondered if you received a different one. I hope you have continued to be migraine free! -Amy

Yes, I’m curious to know which vaccine you had as I’ve not been vaccinated yet because I have very few days, like 0 at the moment, and heard the vaccine made them worse.
