Navigating My Way Through Life with Migraine

Hi! My name is Kim and I have been diagnosed with chronic daily intractable migraine a little over a year and a half ago.

When my migraine began

Prior to this, I had my first migraine in 2015 after being in a car accident and hitting my head on the steering wheel. It made sense that my head would hurt after that! Who’s head wouldn’t?! Anyway, after seeing a neurologist and my PCP and taking preventive and abortive meds for a year and a half the migraine attacks disappeared completely, leading me to believe it was just a result of the accident.

Pregnancy trigger

Fast forward about two years later I was in my second trimester of pregnancy and BOOM! Migraine came back! Once I delivered my child, what a miracle, I was cured! ...NOPE! Three months later, I started the journey that I am still riding and will for life into daily migraine with varying symptoms but typically accompanied by nausea, vomiting, blurry/double vision, abdominal pain, eye pain, neck pain, sometimes pain all over, extreme fatigue, you name it.

A positive outlook

I won’t let it bring me down though and I know that with good supports and family/friends to lean on I can make it through one day at a time. Spreading awareness and advocacy have now become a big part of my life instead of just feeling sorry for myself and being depressed I’m now channeling my energy in more positive ways! I have to be brave if not for myself but for my daughter.
