Finally got help for hormonal headaches

I didnt know that in my area their was a government health department that is a sliding scale and since i have no job, they also found a place for me to get medicine filled for free. Anyway, I have had hormonal migraines for years and the past few years it switched from menustration to ovulation. This past month with bad stress, I had four migraines, two during my period, one during ovulation and luckily I had Maxalt this time. For those who havent took it, do so! It works very well within two hours tops and does not cause drowsiness. You dont have any nausea. in the beginning you feel dizzy some, but after the first few times you dont.

Yesterday I went for a follow up, and the doctor put me also on Topamax. it is supposed to stop the frequency of recurring headaches. I dont know what taking this is like, but i have to take it every day twice a day for months. Just thought I would share so others can see what works..

  1. Hi 15ya4bl,

Thanks for sharing your story with us. I'm glad your doctor is working with you to try and reduce your migraine frequency and severity.

Let me share a bit of information with you on Topamax. It's important to start this medication at a low dose and increase slowly. Typical dosing is 25 mg at bedtime for a week, then 25 mg in the morning and 25 mg at bedtime for a week and so on. Take a look at this information on Topamax dosing here; https://migraine.com/migraine-treatment/topamax/dosage/.
