Moving because of migraines? Migraine better in Switzerland??

  • By sunshinekkf

Has anyone ever moved to a different party of the country to help with their migraines?

I’ve suffered from chronic daily migraines for over the past 25+ years. I’ve literally tried everything and nothing works! This past summer I traveled to Switzerland for two weeks and was amazed to find my headaches much more bearable. I still had a daily headache but it was soooo much better. I actually enjoyed the day instead of just trying to get through the day so I can go to sleep and not feel the pain. It was incredible!!!!!

Anyway, after experiencing such relief I immediately wanted to pack up and move to Switzerland. Ha! Unfortunately this is not logistically possible for me right now.

I started doing some research and spoke with my neurologist. She said Texas ( which is where I currently live) is a horrible place for migraines. She suggested the west coast. One of my relatives who suffers from migraines as well, has experienced some relief in California. I’ve read San Diego is a really good location for those of us who suffer from migraines that tend to be worse with barometric pressure changes.

Everyone thinks I’m crazy but I would move across the country in a second if I knew it would help!

Has anyone had any success with migraines feeling better in San Diego or any other areas on the west coast?

    Thank you!

    Hi sunshinekkf,

Thank you for sharing your story with us and being part of our discussion forum – we’re glad you’re here!

I live in Western New York where the weather is constantly fluctuating, so I get it, but weather probably isn’t the only trigger there is. There is a medication you may want to look into called Diamox which can be used for weather triggered migraine attacks; https://migraine.com/living-migraine/triggered-by-weather-this-medication-may-help/.

I’ve not considered moving specifically for migraine disease, but know others who have with mixed results. You can read more about that here; https://migraine.com/?s=relocating&submit=Go.

Let me know if you have more questions,
    Nancy

I never had headaches before moving to Colorado. It probably depends on the particulars of the climate conditions that are triggering your headaches. The climate here is complete opposite of climate I grew up in and it does not agree with me. High altitude living I have never completely adjusted to. I do think moving can make a difference for certain people, it depends.

Thank you guys so much! Yes, I have had a headache , all day, EVERY SINGLE DAY…24/7 for the past 25+ years!!!! It never goes away. The weather seems to make a big difference, although I know it is not the only trigger.

I am so desperate for relief. 🙁 If I could just help one of the variables and triggers it would at least make it more manageable. I will definitely check out the medication you recommended and read the other forums.

Thank you so much for all your help!!! I hope everyone has a good headache day!
