Physiatry

  • By oliwankenobi

Has anyone had any luck getting their headaches or migraines treated by physiatry? I’ve seen a number of specialities and regularly see a neurologist and primary care doctor, but I think it would probably be good to see a physiatrist as well.

    Hi oliwankenobi,

Thank you for your question. Migraine is thought to be a genetic, neurological disease, not a psychiatric disorder. Now having said that, many experts believe having a therapist or psychiatrist on our medical team is a good idea. Learning how to cope with a chronic illness can be difficult, I know it is for me. My counselor has helped me learn coping skills to deal with it.

Do let us know how you make out,
    Nancy
