What is this?

Im 20 years old and I've had headaches and migraines as long as I can remember. But lately they've been changing. My new ones usually happen when I'm sitting or standing. The pain goes through the back of my head and into my neck, they're debilitating to the point that thinking hurts, but when I lay down on my back they go away. And as soon as I stand again it comes back. Ive been dealing with insurance problems so I haven't been able to go to a neurologist yet. Does anybody else deal with these?

  1. Hi heaven13,

I'm sorry you are having such a difficult time with your head and insurance, I understand how frustrating that is.. When we have new and/or different symptoms and/or changes in our migraine attack patterns its a good idea to let the doctor know so he can rule out anything more serious.

I wish I had a better solution for you!

    Hang in there,
    Nancy

    1. Heaven, be sure to describe precisely for your doctor the fact that your new headaches are relieved by lying down. There is something called "positional headache" that can be a symptom of other conditions causing severe headache, potentially co-morbid with migraine, like issues with CSF pressure. In my case, it took three years for us to request the correct testing to determine this was part of what was going on with me (I also have chronic migraine).
