14 year old with migraine and scary symptoms

Hi
My daughter unfortunately has started to develop migraines over the last year. She is 14 and her first one was when she was 13. I also suffer but seems she’s having slightly different symptoms to me. She has an aura the same as me, blind spots. Then headache develops and she feels nauseated. Yesterday she had been out and came home and had taken tablets a bit late when the aura had gone. She was crying due to the nausea and head pain, and then she just suddenly fell asleep, and it really scared me , she would keep doing that and saying she literally couldn’t keep her eyes open and simply trying to do something with her hands was very difficult. She finally dozed off for a bit , and kept waking and then slept for an hour. When she woke up she was really sick, but the sickness was a relief and made her feel a bit better , gradually slept some more and just the usual after migraine groggy ness. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced extreme sleepiness like that as it was particularly scary, I was really worried.

  1. I'm sorry to hear that you're having to watch you daughter experience a migraine attack. You never want anyone to experience the pain of migraine, let alone your child. Has she met with a headache specialist or neurologist? That's always the most important first steps so she can get a proper evaluation and accurate diagnosis. Maybe if you have a doctor that you've seen over the years, she could get in to see them. That would hopefully give you the best answers as to why she's experiencing the symptoms that she is and how to best manage them. Keep us posted on how it goes if you feel comfortable doing so!
