Migraine and Headache Awareness Month

June is National Migraine and Headache Awareness Month #MHAM

What do you think the biggest misconceptions of migraine are? What do you wish people understood more about migraine? What are your most frustrating symptoms? We know just how challenging and debilitating living with migraine is, so please share your thoughts and experiences.

  1. Hi,

One of the biggest hurdles in my opinion is the terminology used to describe migraine disease. If we can get the medical community to get out of the habit of saying "migraine headache" we may be able to get somewhere.

    1. Migraines are so much more than headaches. Sometimes debilitating

      1. ABSOLUTELY!! That would be one thing that I wish people could understand, how debilitating they can be. I'm lucky in that my husband seemed irritated with me when I had a stretch of back-to- back migraines, until he had his own episode in a store that was triggered by flashing lights. He couldn't even pick his head up off the truck seat so I had to drive. After that he said, "I will never say another word to you about your migraines. I can't believe you go through that pain on a regular basis".

        1. , well I'm sorry that you BOTH experience pain of migraine, I'm so glad that your husband was finally able to understand and support you after his own experience. Unfortunately, people often don't understand just how debilitating and painful migraine is until they experience it themselves. I'm glad you have him in your corner! -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)

      2. It's just a headache

        1. yes! That is such a common misconception from others. You might appreciate this article about 10 ways migraine is more than "just a headache", https://migraine.com/blog/10-ways-migraine-just-headache. -- Warmly, Christine (Team Member)
