Alternative treatments

Have you tried medical marijuana? Has it helped your migraine? What form do you use?

  1. the use of medical marijuana for migraines is kind of a mixed bag. There have not been extensive studies on how effective it is for migraines either for the most part. Here is an article that was written that covers some good information on this topic. https://migraine.com/blog/medical-marijuana-migraine
I hope you find that it gives you some insight, and as with any treatment you are interested in it is always a good idea to discuss it with your doctor. Warmly, Cheryl migraine.com team

    1. Thank you. I have already read all the stuff on migraine.com pertaining to MM. However it is all at least 5 years old. I was hoping for more current experiences.

      2. Thanks for letting us know! It's really helpful when people point out topics that could use a refresher, especially because this site is SO big and has a long history. We'll keep it in mind for the future! -Melissa, migraine.com team

    2. It has given me mixed results. It affects everyone differently, so results are also on a person-to-person basis. However, while weed can act as a temporary treatment, longterm it is a pointless endeavor. You will build tolerance, you will pay an absurd amount of money for the premium medical version, and due to the tolerance you will build the effectiveness will slow down.

In other words, this doesn't fix the underlying issue of the migraines itself, but rather acts as a way to make the pain more bearable. It might be useful as a backup if you get really bad migraines, but in general even if it worked well for you it'd still be a 100 times more beneficial to seek medical advice and treatment that doesn't involve marijuana, instead something specifically designed to battle migraines.

This is my opinion, not medical advice.

      1. Thank you for reaching out and sharing your input with us. While medical cannabis doesn't stop a migraine it can be beneficial in addition to traditional medicine. Most of us with migraine use a combination of medications, supplements, devices, complementary therapies and lifestyle modifications to manage it. What work for one of us, may not work for another! It's complicated!
