Anyone Experience Sore Throat and Ear Pain as a Migraine Aura?

Hello, I am new to this site. I have had migraines for many years. For the longest time I did not know as my migraines oftentimes do not come with head pain. Mine are mostly auras that last for days. When I do get the pain, the auras go away much faster. My auras vary, most recently I have experienced bilateral ear pain and sore throat along with low grade temp of 99. Anyone else ever experience this?

  1. Hi, korband! Welcome to the community. 😀 Changes in temperature are common with migraine, and we've had people share in the past that they also experience throat or ear pain. So you're not alone there. Here's a similar discussion from a few years back: https://migraine.com/q-and-a/throat-ache-pain/

Is there a possibility that you're dealing with a cold or other bug? Don't be afraid to check in with a doctor -- it's always good to rule out other causes.

Hope that helps! Feel free to ask as many questions as you'd like. 😀 Glad you found us!

    1. I’m new as well and although this post is a year old, I thought I would add to this topic in case it helps others. I seem to be getting silent migraines now (age 42), starting a year ago (according to the neurologist). What I’ve noticed fairly recently is a persistent slightly sore throat that doesn’t leave most days and most days I have malaise from chronic migraines perhaps. It’s not a dry a season so it can’t be attributed to heaters. In fact it’s somewhat moist in the air. I don’t have COVID so the only explanation would be a byproduct of migraines..

      1. Hi thank you for sharing your experiences. I have not personally heard much about silent migraines so I appreciate you sharing and educating us. For me personally I seem to get ear pain with migraines but also I get the pain when I don't have migraines but where I live allergy season seems to be an all year round thing for me. Please let us know if there's any resources we can show you or if you have any questions we can answer. Warmly, Tara (team member)
