Aura while dreaming and actually having an aura!

Hi! Just joined. I've been a lovely receiver of wonderful migraine disease for 30 years now! Yay me...😝. I get to enjoy the wonderful aura of blind spots to full out colorful zig zag lines over my vision field on the regular. I HATE my aura. Causes me such anxiety! Anyway, I'm sharing this because I had the weirdest experience a few nights ago, around 2:30 am. I was dreaming in aura! I was driving my mom around my hometown and kept telling her I couldn't see, but she insisted I keep driving. Low and behold I woke up in full aura. Laid there until it passed, popped a Maxalt and enjoying my lovely hangover symptoms still as I post. Has anyone else ever experienced this??! It was so strange.

  2. Yes, I've had this happen before. I hate waking up in the middle of it because I've missed the window to take meds for them to be most effective. Luckily it doesn't happen too frequently for me. Hopefully not for you, either.

    1. You are doing such a great job sorting through your medications- the side effects that accompany them- and responding to the changing treatment environment all of this presents. It really is such a journey. We are with you as you continue along the way. Sending love and compassion- Holly (migraine.com team).

  3. I’ve had a migraine in my sleep, or have a prodrome where I’m screaming at someone is a rage, only to wake up with the pain in my right eye and a day of being down with a full blown migraine headache with nauseas, sound and light sensitivity and the desire to just be alone. This has happened four or five times; emotional swings are part of my prodrome. If I’m at an extreme of anger, sadness, or even feeling really good, it usually hits in a few hours. I should know better by now, but it still catches me off guard, thinking may mood change is normal.

    1. This is indeed fascinating. And I understand the clarification. It's almost like your body is alerting you to an impending attack. And/or the aura is powerful enough to penetrate your dreams. Hope others chime in on this. Warmly- Holly migraine.com team

    2. thank you. It was so weird... So why I wanted to ask if others have experienced this too

  4. Yes,I often wake up having been dreaming I had a migraine and low and behold I wake up with one.
