Can not sleep through the night / migraine with aura

This is my first post so I’ll give some background info.

I’m 25 years old , very physically fit and live a healthy life style . I’ve been suffering from migraines since I was 10 years old . Some times I’ll go 5 months without a migraine , other times I’ll get 4/5 a month .
I almost always have an aura 30 minutes prior to feeling any head pain .
Over the years I realize, prior to getting a migraine ( usually hours before ) I usually wake up abruptly , and I’m wide awake . Often I wake up feeling euphoric.
I usually get nauseous and vomit within the first hour of having head pain . My headaches usually last 3-5 hours .

3 days ago I woke up after sleeping 3 hours and wasn’t able to fall back asleep. Later that day I had an aura with a slight headache .
That night I slept 3 hours and woke up wide awake again .
That day I had an aura with a very intense migraine headache .
That night I slept about 4 hours and woke up abruptly once again. That day I had no migraine.
Last night I slept only 2 hours and woke up abruptly . Today I worry that I will get another episode . Any tips ? Advise ?

Thank you

  1. Hi timmy,

Thank you for sharing your journey with us and welcome to the Migraine.com discussion forum!!

Is this a new symptom? If so, it's a good idea to let the doctor know when our migraine attack patterns and/or symptoms change so he can make sure everything checks out ok.

Having said that, I wonder is there is an underlying sleep issue that may be triggering these attacks. There are a variety of sleep issues, not just sleep apnea, that can trigger migraine attacks. You may want to discuss having a sleep study with the doctor so this can be ruled out, or in as the case may be.

I'm sure others will be along to share their experiences with you.

    Have a good day!
    Nancy
