I Want to Cancel a Vacation at Christmas and Am Wondering If I Should

My brother bought me a flight to visit him and his family around Christmas in Las Vegas. My migraines are changing again, and I'm getting nausea and headaches and confusion. I'd gladly pay for the cost of the ticket, but feel bad if I should back out of the visits. Don't know what I should do; I feel he'll judge me and be disappointed and possibly not understand. And then again I could be wrong he might understand and maybe it doesn't matter what he thinks. I'm afraid the long flight is going to trigger a migraine.

  1. Hi Brody, thank you for reaching out! I hear how anxious you are feeling about the upcoming holidays. It is hard knowing how to handle the gift of a trip where there are so many unknowns. How has your brother responded to migraine's impact on your life in the past? Could you have a conversation with him and express both your thanks and your worry over how migraine might affect the visit? Perhaps you can ask upfront how he and his family will feel if you must spend part of the visit sequestered in a dark room with migraine and whether or not that will be okay. The outcome of the conversation might help you make the best choice for you.
