Chronic Migraines

I've been suffering about 15 years frequently only discovered sumatriptan about 6 years ago first one made me quite sick but after that I was okish for a while then I started to rely on them every time I had a Migraine they do get rid of the severity of the Headache although you do feel very muggy headed! all the next day and have dizziness a lot but this is only thing that I find works although I believe Botox is very good not sure if you can get it on the national health though and I just would not have the money for it, I tried a few other prescription drugs at the beginning but couldn't tolerate them with the side effects! All the best to my fellow sufferers, these migraines are very debilitating for us all.

  1. - We are so grateful you took the time to share some of your migraine journey with us. I'm sorry that you have yet to find a treatment that helps without troublesome side effects. It's unfortunately very hard to find a solution that is free of side effects which leaves us having to manage side effects from medication atop the symptoms of migraine. You mentioned that you believe Botox is good- have you tried it yet? Like all treatments, it works for some and not for others. Have you tried any of the new CGRP treatments (these include Emgality, Ajovy, Aimovig, Nurtec, Qulipta, Vyepti, among others)? These treatments have proven helpful for many and some report little to no side effects with them. I currently take Emgality and have Botox - these two approaches coupled together seem to decrease the severity of my attacks (but not the frequency). I don't have any side effects with either of these treatments. That said, everyone is different and so what works for me may not work for you. Still, the line of CGRP treatments may be worth considering with your migraine doctor. As we all know, there is no cure for migraine so the goal shifts to finding treatments that make the condition more manageable and less debilitating. Here's some information on the CGRPs in case you are interested: https://migraine.com/cgrp-new-direction-migraine-treatment. We are here to provide information and support so please stay in touch with any questions you have - and keep chiming in to share your well-earned wisdom from navigating many years with migraine. I'm sure we could learn a lot from you. Warmly- Holly -migraine.com team.
