Cost of Migraine Medicines

I was diagnosed with migraine a few months ago. First they put me on Qulipta which really wasn't helpful. I am now on Emgality - the nurse practitioner gave me two samples which lasted 2 months. It does help me but now I am terribly anxious because the Emgality (with insurance coverage) is about $800 and we simply cannot afford that. I went online and signed up with Simplefill who supposedly can help with cost of meds. I filled out all the forms but haven't heard back if I qualify. The nurse said she could not give me another sample because "the sales reps are very limited what they will allow." That's all well and good but after people in suits decide they won't help with the costs, and dictate to the doctors what can be prescribed, where do you go from here? My NP said yes, they realize insurance has too much to say about who gets what. So frustrated it will probably trigger another migraine.

  1. Omgoodness - Glad to hear Emgality helps. That's a lot to pay monthly. Have you checked out the Emgality savings card? This can help. Here's the link. https://emgality.lilly.com/savings-support# many in the community get this medication for $0 with a Savings Card from Lilly. Sending you thoughts of healing and wellness. 2. Hi, Rebecca,
Thank you for your care and concern. Since I am on Medicare I cannot get the savings card. I wish I could! Thank you for your input.

    1. Sorry - the last link is through the Social Security Medicare page. Rebecca

    2. try to get on the LillyCares patient assistance program for Emgality.
I’m on Medicare as well. I got approved for Emgality almost immediately after applying. They ship 4 doses per 3 month interval at no cost, not even shipping. It comes in a cold pack box.

  3. Hi, Rebecca,
Thank you so much for providing me some options. It is so frustrating to have a medication work and then not be able to continue it due to high pricing.

    1. it is so frustrating, I agree! I'm glad to hear that the tips that Rebecca shared were helpful. Most of all I'm glad that your reaching out to the community here, because we certainly understand the struggles and can relate. Hope you get a workaround and some relief soon!
