Could BOTOX cause pericarditis?

Good morning!! Thank you very much for the information you provide to us about this dilemma of migraine. I am writing to you from Greece and I would like to ask you to answer me, since we all here in this forum exchange opinions, if after the treatment with BOTOX he got sick with acute pericarditis or he got a disease that caused inflammation in the body of. .

I'm looking for an answer to this, (if there is one) if it is related, because I did this combination thought just today, when I was diagnosed again with acute pericarditis. I must tell you that I have done a thorough examination to rule out other diseases. I have no other health diseases but hypothyroidism and I take T4, 25 mg daily except Saturday and Sunday from 50mg.

So as I begin to tell you about my adventure. I started doing BOTOX in 2017, where after a month and a few days (08-2017) I got my first pericarditis ... since then I have suffered two more times. At the moment I am writing to you, I am suffering from pericarditis again, I was diagnosed 3 times today, and I did BOTOX again on 23-02-2022. I forgot to say that after the 2 times he was diagnosed on 31-03-2020, I did not do BOTOX treatment again since then, except on 9-2021 where after 1 month and something I got toxic thyroiditis, (I was still on treatment for pericarditis) and after At the end of the thyroid inflammation with treatment, I got hypothyroidism and I am receiving treatment as I told you above.

The truth is that I was not very typical for continuous quarterly treatments needed (maybe for good in the end). I do not know if my remarks are atopic or if there really is a reason to check it since medically there are only a few reports on this issue internationally, from what I searched on the internet and the doctors here do not know, or there are no reports on them. BOTOX is derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.

Today I talked to my cardiologist about my concerns and he will look into this issue as well. I hope to receive answers that will help-inform-concern the other sympathizers, the medical community and me. Thank you very much for your answers.

  1. Hi there- thank you so much for writing in to share some of your journey and concerns. It does sound concerning, indeed. And it's understandable why you are seeking connections between these various conditions as you look under every rock for answers and to be as informed as possible. Good for you and glad you've brought this up with your cardiologist.
I have been receiving Botox for migraine for 20 years and have been writing for this site for ten years and have never heard of a tie between Botox, thyroid and/or pericarditis. That said, we are not here or qualified to provide medical advice on this site. We are here to provide support, guidance, and information. To that end, we are here to support you as you seek answers to these important questions. It can be stressful to manage migraine on its own - with all of its complex symptoms, severe pain. Add to that other health challenges, and things can start feeling unwieldy and heavy. Good for you for seeking answers, doing research and consulting with professionals. Is the Botox helping to decrease your migraine attack frequency/severity? Thanks again for reaching out - we're glad you're with us. Warmly, Holly (migraine.com team).

    1. I'm also unaware of a connection, but I believe it's prudent to consider all possibilities. We are all so different in how we react to medications, so it makes sense to talk to your doctors about your concerns. I hope you are able to get some of the answers you need. Please keep us updated on how things are going for you. April - Migraine. com Team

      1. Good morning! Thank you for your replies.

The problem of migraines is really something terrible that non-sufferers can not understand. But we are all homeopaths here and we can understand each other, empathize, exchange views and help as much as we can, because information on this subject is difficult, because each body reacts differently to different therapeutic approaches.

I have tried several treatments for migraine but without the therapeutic response I should. With Botox treatment, the truth is that I have seizures, but not daily and milder ones where with an imigran 50 mg I overcome them most of the time, otherwise with a combination of anti-inflammatory drugs and imigran.

If it is now medically found that Botox is causing me health problems, but also besides that I am afraid the truth is to do it again… (https://www.ehealthme.com/ds/botox/pericarditis/) is now the only way to CGRP monoclonal antibodies where in Greece now EOPPY finally approved 2-3 months ago for migraine patients.

I spoke with another doctor today specializing in Pathology - Infectious Diseases and tonight I will visit him in his office. He told me that it could be related and that maybe this toxin, which is an active bacterium (Clostridium botulinum), creates immune activations in the body, and I should check it. I am entering a cycle of investigation that may have a basis and not for me as much as if it is found that there is such a correlation to inform the world and the medical community, because I will never do this treatment again. I will inform you about it. Thank you for all!!! You have my love !!!

        1. You really have been through a lot! It sounds like you were having a terrible time with Botox -- I am surprised your doctor did not suggest stopping sooner! I'm glad that you're okay.
