Doctors

I've had bad headaches since I was 15 yo, by the time I was in my late 20's my headaches never stoped, I'm now 55. I lived most of my life in Texas and had a wonderful dr. I moved to Alabama to be closer to my dad and now I'm unable to find a dr to prescribe my medication. I've been thru pain clinics, had injections in my neck, Botox injections and have taken every medication known. Bubitalb w and with out codiene, and soma helps me the best. The problem is I need to take my meds about every 4-5 hrs. I've been to multiple Drs in this area and they try to put me on stuff I've already tired and can find no relief. It's getting harder and harder to get out of bed. They try to tell me it's rebound headaches, if that's the case why does my head hurt so bad when I haven't been on meds for over a month. I wake up from my sleep because my head hurts so bad. I just don't know what to do with these new laws over medications.

  1. Do you have proof of your medication history so you can show that you have in fact tried these medications and they don't work for you? That's all I can think of unless you can go to a neurologist or a headache specialist who will understand.

    1. Hi 26ts279,

I'm sorry you're having such a difficult time right now. Moving in itself is stressful and we may not take care of ourselves as we should during stressful periods. I know I have to work hard to keep a regular sleep schedule, stay hydrated and not skip meals during stress, which isn't easy!

You mentioned rebound headache, or medication overuse headache moh. Do you drink caffeine? For some people this can help a migraine attack, for others (like myself) it can increase our risk of moh. If have more than one cup of coffee a day for a few days, I'll throw myself into moh. If I'm in a moh cycle, my migraine attacks are more difficult to treat and I can end up in a daily cycle of pain. No one wants endless pain. Just something to think about.

I found two doctors in AL that are board certified in headache medicine, which is different than being certified in neurology; Dr, Smitha R. Persaud, Huntsville AL
and John F. Rothrock MD Birmingham AL. You may want to investigate seeing these experts. They can make a world of difference.

      Hope that helps,
      Nancy

      1. Maybe you could call your previous doctor and see if you guys can work out a solution together. If you lived in TX most of your life, I am sure he would be more than familiar with your situation and be willing to help from far.
