Migraines and Exercise

Hi all, I have been keeping a log for a while now and the one consistent trigger for me is exercise. I do barre, which is a combination of Pilates, yoga and ballet, 2 times a week. It is very low impact, but every time I take a barre class, I develop a migraine the next day. This was also the case when I used to run, and barre took the place of running as a result.

Has anyone else had this connection to migraines and exercise? I am wondering if some sort of physical therapy or chiropractor might be an answer. My doctors answer was to simply stop exercising, but that just doesn’t sound right to me. Thank you!

  1. Hi jomalle22,

Thank you for your question. You aren't alone in having an issue with exercise and a migraine attack. Do you have a bite to eat beforehand? A drop in blood sugar can certainly trigger a migraine attack. Also staying hydrated before and during exercise is important to help stave off a migraine attack.

Hopefully others will be along shortly to share their experiences too!

    Nancy
