Hemiplegic Migraine & CRGP/Botox

Just wondering if anybody with Hemiplegic Migraine has tried these treatments?
Also the outcome - positive or negative?
Lastly side effects?
Many thanks. D

  1. Hi there- thanks so much for this important question. We have a few existing resources in which our contributors or community members with Hemiplegic Migraine have shared their experiences with these meds. You can find them here: https://migraine.com/living-migraine/my-responsibility. And here: https://migraine.com/search?s=Hemiplegic%20botox. Obviously, less on the connection with CGRP. Hopefully you'll see more members chiming in below but I wanted to get things started with what we have so far. Thanks for posing the question! Warmly- Holly -migraine.com team.

    1. Hi there . I just started taking nurtec as an abortive for hemiplegic migraines. (Mine aren't necessarily typical or representative of all hemiplegic migraines, but aura is definitely the worst part of my migraines, with arm pain, aphasia, etc.) I only started taking it recently, but so far it has prevented any of my auras from progressing past the visual aura, and has left me with just a mild headache. Little or no body numbness, no body pain, and so so thankfully no speech jumbling. I'm still having migraines (3 in the last three days) but it's been incredible to wake up with an aura, take a pill, and then have a relatively normal day, just taking it a bit easier. I'm so thankful for it, and genuinely nervous it will just stop working or something cuz I can barely believe it is! No notable side effects (and I'm super sensitive to a lot of medications, and contraindicated from most migraine meds because of other health conditions). Everyone reacts to every medicine differently, but in my non-professional opinion it's definitely worth at least discussing with your doctor.
      Best of luck!

      1. Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm glad Nurtec is helping you. I know how big of a deal it is to find something that makes a dent in our attacks! Your last sentence sums it up beautifully. I hope you continue to have success with Nurtec. Warmly, Cheryl migraine.com team
