My review on using an Ice Beanie

A few weeks ago I had sent out a message to you all to get your input as to whether I should buy an Ice Beanie, and I just want you all to know that I went ahead and bought one, and now I would love to tell you all about it.

First of all, if you are not familiar with it, IceBeanie is a light blue stocking cap that you wear on your head and it is kept cold either in the freezer or the refrigerator.

I was a little hesitant on the cost as it is about $40, but I figured why not, after talking with you all. Plus, I thought it was very stylish for medical gear. I had seen some knock offs but I decided to order the original because I had wanted to for some time.

When I got it in the mail and opened up the box, I couldn't be more thrilled because it was not like the knock offs that have the gel packs that you insert into the hat, the IceBeanie is a total gel hat! No inserting any gel packs with this! It is a bit heavy to hold but I never felt that it was too heavy on my head.

It comes in a special bag that you store it in so it is very hygienic, as it goes in your refrigerator. I keep mine in the freezer because when I am having migraine, only ice packs will help me. I will say that it is almost too cold at first, but after a couple minutes it gets to be the perfect temp for me. Each person is different with this of course, and I did read you can warm it if you prefer warm.

For me, I do wish the cold would last longer, it starts to lose effectiveness after about 20 minutes in my case, but you can put it back in the freezer or fridge and use it again and again and again. Which I have!😀

So if any one is thinking of getting one of these I would definitely have this in your tools to help you cope with the pain. I ordered one for my daughter and I am thinking of getting another one for myself. 😀

      1. that's a great forum that you have going. I assumed everyone would be #teamice but clearly that's not the case. It really is a personal preference and affects each of us so differently. - Alene, moderator

    2. Thanks so much for sharing your experience ! I have seen a lot of the posts and comments around all the ice pack options. It does seem that this is a popular one. Having such a detailed review is really helpful. It sounds like its quite comfortable. I do agree with your assessment on the timing though, I would want it to say colder than 20 minutes. That's about the standard time for my ice packs now... and the time that I'm wishing I could magically transport a new, cold ice pack from the freezer up to my room! - Alene, moderator
