Idiopathic Intercraniac Hypertension

Does anyone else have this? I was just officially diagnosed. My neuro was thinking it was a possibility, and we did a lumbar puncture. The results were positive, my cranial fluid levels were elevated to a fairly noticeable level. I'm not entirely sure what all it means yet, but it does seem like it might be at least part of why I've been getting so many more migraines.

  1. Hi
I'm sorry to hear about this recent diagnosis. I also have IIH, but seem to be in remission. When active I did have more migraine attacks, however they felt a bit different; more pressure vs. throbbing and whooshing in my ears. I find this incredibly frustrating.
I know lumbar punctures aren't fun having had a few for both for diagnostic purposes and to lower CSF. Did you do OK with the procedure?
Did the neurologists provide next steps and a plan? The doctor who diagnosed me years ago said IIH (formerly called pseudotumor cerebri) was a disease for women who were "fertile, fat and forty" I nearly choked when he said that. We have information here you can check out when you get a chance; https://migraine.com/search?s=IIH
Please keep me posted? And pain free wishes on their way to you, Nancy Harris Bonk, team member

    1. I actually did fine with the procedure. Had some pain afterwards, but it wasn't too bad. We're starting me on a diuretic med, we'll see if that helps.

    2. Good to hear! I was on methazolamide for a number of year to reduce CSF. I started with Diamox but couldn't tolerate it.
