Left-Handed or Right-Handed

I write with my left hand and use a fork and a spoon with my left as well. But then, I am comfortable doing a lot of things with my right hand which has more strength. When people ask me if I am left-handed or right-handed, I say left-handed because I need to answer. But I am not sure about it.
There have been occasions where I get confused if I switch hands for a task. There are sports where I mostly prefer the right hand. But something like billiards makes me use my left hand. I don’t understand how this works.
While playing badminton, I keep switching my hands after each game. This helps me relax the other arm. I am way better at playing this game with my right hand. With my left arm, it feels awkward and I don’t have a smooth range of motion, unlike my right arm.
I wonder if my brain fog symptom has something to do with this.

  1. Hi there - thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. I've not personally encountered any research indicating that there's a connection between migraines and the hands we use for particular tasks, but it wouldn't surprise me if there was! If you happen to find anything, do you mind sharing with the community? Migraine is a fascinating, albeit often painful disease. The more we can all learn, the better! - Cody (Team Member)

    1. I write with my right hand, but I do most other things with my left. My migraines are almost always on my right (only time I had left side migraines was when I had a massive tooth absess on that side).

      1. Same! I think I may have been left handed as a baby, as I do loads of things with my left hand. In the '60's being left handed was discouraged so I'm sure I was strongly encouraged to be right handed. My daughter is left handed and I remember my MIL tried to get her to change to use her right hand when clearly that was not her preference!
And just like you, I'm more prone to pain on my right side, that's the side I slammed my head on concrete all those years ago.
