Lodicaine gel... in my nose?
My doctor couldn't think of any pill to prescribe me to take away a migraine when I had one... besides imitrex which had side effects worse than the migraine itself. So now he has prescribed lidocaine to put into my nose. They do make a nose spray for this purpose, from what I have read. But he prescribed lidocaine gel because that's the only kind my insurance would pay for. Does anyone have any idea how I'm supposed to get this gel up into my nose? It's literally just a tube of gel. The thought of trying to snort numbing gel is kind of horrifying.

Lidocaine can be used to help with migraine attack pain. Many years ago my doctor prescribed lidocaine gel but it only worked occasionally.

I can tell you I'm unable to take the pill form of triptans, yes I've tried all seven of them, due to unwanted side effect. I CAN however, use triptan nasal sprays without any problem. You may want to mention this to your doctor.
The thing is if we get four or more severe migraine attacks a month, it's time to discuss migraine prevention with the doctor. Not to worry, there are over 100 medications and supplements that can be used to treat migraine disease. Let me share that article with you here;

I used to use lidicaine gel nasally quite a bit! It really helps if you use it right at the very start to deter an incoming migraine or for during a bad one when you need a break from the pain. But it doesnt last very long and is less effective if used more than once in a row. Oh, and it tastes terrible. But once you start relating that terrible taste to the immediate relief of pain, you'll begin to like it.
So! The benifits of the gel over the spray. It sticks in there and just slides into all the creves', which is what you want and its much cheaper.
To use it you just need a nasal atomizer attatchment to your flush. It's a little squishy cone looking thing you shove into your nose. They're cheap and come in packs.
Also. The first few times you do it, it might be helpful to get someone to do it for you, the taste will really make your hesitate and you really want one strong shot up there.Hope this was helpful!
