Migraine and antibiotics

I have had migraines since my 20’, and I am now 66. My question is does anyone else get relief from chronic migraines while taking antibiotics?

  1. Thank you for reaching out to our community with your question. Living with long term migraine is frustrating for sure. The thing is migraine is a neurological disease that falls on a spectrum from mild to severely debilitating. Antibiotics are not indicated anywhere to treat migraine disease.
I'm curious, do you take antibiotics to treat migraine and for how long? I hope I'm not prying too much! Wishing you a low pain day, Nancy Harris Bonk, Patient Leader/Moderator Migraine.com Team

    1. I had terrible migraine since age 9-10 years old till age 40. I've seen many doctors, specialist, TCM,they always ended up saying that's nothing they can do but to just gave me heavier and heavier dosage of pain killer. I took Vioxx for 10 years until I have chest pain. So, I decided to stop and treat myself. I didn't have migraine for the last 17 years. 3 weeks ago, I have flu and took panadol, it helps to stop my body aching. However, it triggered my migraine and it attacked not only my neck, head, eyes and forehead, it attacked mostly on left side arm, chest, breast and ribs. I couldn't swallow any food for new days, couldn't stand cooking smell. Certain sounds, music can triggered my migraine, even talking a bit too loud too. I stayed inside Aircon room most of the time as once I feel the heat, it will trigger my migrain. The pains are mostly gone now but still have some pain but not as severe as the last 3 weeks. If I could successful treat myself, I'd like to share my experience with everyone who suffered migraine as I know how terrible is it to get attack. @JB

      1. , thank you for sharing some of your story. We're glad your here and thank you for your kind wishes. I am with you in cool and quiet places. When others are excited for summer, I yearn for spring and fall. Wishing you low-pain days. -Warmly, Donna (team member)

      2. I wonder if this reappearance of migraines was triggered by the flu you had. People with migraine tend to have stronger attacks or more frequent symptoms when they're not feeling well. We've even seen people feeling badly for a long time after having COVID. In any case, I'm glad you're starting to feel better and I hope this continues moving forward. -Melissa, migraine.com team
