Migraine with and without Aura - VIELIGHT

Hi everyone hope you're well and without migraine today...
Has anyone used or have knowledge of the Vielight brain photobiomodulation device in relation to migraine? I'm putting feelers out and looking for any info possible please. Comes with great reviews for all manner of brain problems but I'm hitting a wall regarding migraine. Thanks in advance - Claire

  1. Hi
    Thank you for reaching out to the community. I've not heard of this device, but hopefully others will be along shortly to share their experiences with you.
    I hear how frustrating it is to live and manage migraine disease. While we don't have a cure, there are over 100 medications, supplements, devices, complementary therapies and lifestyle modifications that can be used to manage migraine disease and most of us are on a combination of these, I sure am, please don't lose hope!! It can take a while to figure out what management plan is the best for us as we're all so different when it come to migraine. Here is information on where to start;
    https://migraine.com/blog/migraine-preventives-start.
    The thing is if we have three or four migraine attacks a month, it's time to discuss migraine prevention with the doctor. Episodic migraine (14 or fewer migraine/headache days a month) can transform into chronic migraine (15 or more migraine/headache days a month) fairly quickly. One of the best things I've done for myself was to see a true migraine/headache disease doctor and she's made a huge impact in my care. These expert doctors are different from general neurologists as they are certified in headache medicine, all neurologists are not. General neurologists may be fine doctors but have a hard time being experts in one area because they treat many conditions such as stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's and more. A true migraine/headache disease doctor treats migraine and headache all day, every day. Here is more information on how these doctors are different and how to find one;

    I hope this information is beneficial. Will you let me know what you think? Wishing you a low pain day, Nancy Harris Bonk, Patient Leader/Moderator Migraine.com Team

    1. Thank you for all the lovely information Nancy, very much appreciated. x

  2. @ClaireG,
    Hi there! I looked up this device online because I have never heard of it and noticed that it didn't mention migraine relief. You might want to call the company and ask about this. There are several neuromodulation devices that people are using around here. One you might want to look into is Relivion. I am using it, and it works differently from all the other devices. Here is a link to their website. This device has been very helpful for me.

    1. Peggy Hi!! I just saw your post..thanks so much for your feedback. I did contact Vielight over past few weeks with questions etc and am now going to look at Relivion. Thanks so much for taking time to write and double thanks for the reco. Going to investigate now. Wishing you well..xCx

    2. @ClaireG,
      You are very welcome.
      Warmly,

  3. Claire, I also have not heard of this particular device. I did check out the mode of operation for the device, which you said was photobiomodulation. The device appears to be a form of light therapy targeting the blood vessels and tissues in the nasal cavity. There is sparse information about this specific therapy, but here is a link to a study about light therapy that you might find interesting.

    Light therapy has been used for many years as an adjunct therapy. Each wavelength of light is different, which allows for a spectrum of possible efficacy. Two of the most common light therapies I've encountered use red or green light. Hopefully, others will provide their insights into this form of therapy. Warmly, Cheryl migraine.com team

    1. Hi Cheryl,
      Thank you so much for taking the time to reply - I really appreciate you taking time out of your day to do that. I've had some direct feedback re Vielight with some of their neuroscientists and am going to go ahead and use their device. This is after months of research and so on. As a proponent of red light therapies (I have a body panel) I was interested to see how having something almost similar (may) and I remain completely sceptical, add to/work as another addition to my Migraine arsenal. My main worry is not to make things worse which for every Migraineur is a constant - I'm wary and shall use with a mixture of trepidation and extreme caution!!! Yes, I'm a bit of a coward lol. Shall update further down the line after a month of trialing. Take good care and wishing you migraine free days..x

      1. , I understand how this type of investment is not made lightly(no pun intended). Having used red light therapy before this device should give you some courage! I hope your trial period yields some beneficial results. I am interested to hear about your experience with the device. Which model are you planning on trying? Warmly, Cheryl migraine.com team
