Migraines suck & if you have never had one you probably do not have enough compassion for me.

I am 66 years old and have had migraines for 50 years. I also have depression. My husband is never sick and thinks I should be able to feel better with positive thoughts. Unfortunately, that does not help me. About 5 years ago, I had a stroke and they took me off all the sumatriptans. Until then, they would kick my migraines. I am on Ubrelvy but it does not work as well. I took Nurtec with it daily to prevent them but it did not help so they had me stop. Before that I did botox injections. It helped for a while, then it stopped. Just frustrating and I have to take it one day at a time.

  1. Hi
Ugh! I'm so sorry you have been living with long term migraine disease - you're not alone! If positive thoughts could get rid of a disease state, we'd all be pain free.
Here's what is important to know about migraine - if we have four or more severe attacks a month it's time to discuss migraine prevention in addition to acute treatments. Please don't lose hope - there are over 100 medications, supplements, devices, complementary therapies and lifestyle modifications that can be used to manage migraine disease and most of us are on a combination of these, I sure do!

    1. Hi - Thank you for taking the time to post your experience with migraines. Have you ever considered talking to your doctor about nerve stimulators designed to treat migraine? There are a variety of options available, such as the GammaCore Sapphire, Cefely, Nerivio, and more. It could be a potential source of relief, given that the medications you've tried have brought diminished relief over time. Here is a link to more information about each of them: https://migraine.com/devices, and each specific device can be found here: GammaCore Sapphire (https://migraine.com/gammacore-sapphire), Cefely (https://migraine.com/cefaly), and Nerivio (https://migraine.com/nerivio).

      1. Im so sorry, , to hear you are struggling with migraines on top of other issues. Understandably, positive thoughts alone may not alleviate the intensity of your migraines. It's so important to have empathy and understanding from those around you, as managing chronic migraines requires patience, resilience, and sometimes trying different approaches until you find what works best for you. And, as Nancy mentioned above, there are over 100 medications, supplements, devices, complementary therapies, and lifestyle modifications.

Taking it one day at a time is a wise approach. Remember to be kind to yourself and acknowledge the strength it takes to navigate each day despite the pain and frustration. It's okay to have moments of frustration or sadness, but also important to celebrate your victories, no matter how small they may seem. Please know that you're not alone. Keep honoring your strength and prioritizing self-care as you navigate the ups and downs of living with migraine disease. Wishing you success in finding a successful treatment plan. Thoughtfully, Rebecca (team member)
