Missing Out

So many holidays missed, friend's 50th birthday party, get togethers.

  1. This is one of the toxic parts of suffering with migraines I completely understand, I have lost so many friends even my job! Because of those migraine attacks theta jsut creep up! It’s even put me off going anywhere over night or to far from the house 🙁

    1. I'm so sorry to hear how migraine has impacted your life - from social support to your job - migraine takes and takes. And, as you said, it becomes limiting as we learn that to have the best chance at avoiding a migraine, we must live in a way that can feel small - every decision about how to spend our time is viewed through the migraine lens (will this activity exacerbate or trigger an attack? will this location put me in a place where I can't properly manage an attack if it arises? and on and on). The condition has so many far-reaching implications. You are not alone in this and we appreciate you sharing your experiences on this front. I just posted some links in this comment section to a couple of articles that talk about this challenge and offer ideas on how to navigate it. Perhaps they will resonate with you. Sending love and compassion your way. Warmly- Holly -migraine.com team.

    2. - missing out on experiences due to migraines can be a challenging and disheartening aspect of living with this condition. I am sorry you've experienced this. Migraines can disrupt daily life, social interactions, and various activities, leading to feelings of frustration, isolation, and even sadness. It's essential to be patient and kind to yourself as you navigate the challenges of living with migraines. Seeking understanding and support from others, along with prioritizing self-care, can help you find ways to cope with the impact of migraines on your life and work towards achieving a better quality of life. So very glad you are a part of our community - we very much understand. Sending hugs and wishing you love and care. Warmly - Rebecca (community moderator)

  2. - You are so right, unfortunately. Migraine does so frequently lead to our missing out on the most important of life events (and the not-so-important ones too!). I thought you might be interested in these two resources that speak to this dynamic- there are a lot of community comments that follow them both- all of which help to illustrate that you are not alone in this experience: https://migraine.com/living-migraine/missing-out. And: https://migraine.com/video/make-missing-out-easier. Both those pieces also discuss ways to handle this dynamic. Hope they might prove helpful to you.

    1. - you are not alone in facing these struggles, and with the right support and management strategies, you can work towards improving your quality of life and finding ways to participate in meaningful experiences despite the challenges posed by migraines. We are standing beside you rooting you on - may you find relief and have grand days ahead. Thinking of you - Rebecca (community moderator)

      1. Sending hugs to you today. We get it. I hope you are still surrounded by people that understand you are struggling with a true illness, and are willing to continue to show you support. You deserve it. -Melissa, migraine.com team
