Non clamping noise cancelling headphones

Does anyone have any recommendations for some super comfortable noise cancelling headphones? I get migraines from any pressure on my head, and am autistic with sensory processing issues. I recently upgraded to Bose Quiet Comfort 45 SE - after reading amazing reviews. They clamped my head so tight, I immediately got a headache. I’ve heard people say that stretching them over a yoga block can loosen them, but I’m not sure this will be enough and I may just return them. I use Apple AirPod noise cancelling buds which are great for day to day, but I want something with better noise cancelling for flights and gardening noise. I have a cheap old pair of JBL’s that I’m upgrading. They fit my head okay but the ear pads squash my ears. I have a small head so the size isn’t the issue, it’s the clamping pressure. Can anyone help please!

  1. this is such a great question. I too am sensitive to the tightness of head phones. I have a pair of beats that have been stretched out but even with that I only wear them for short periods of time - only when I'm recording podcast episodes. Outside of that I really like the airpods because there's not "headband" to them. I'm interested to hear other community members' experiences and recommendations. Thanks for starting this conversation.

    1. Thanks for your reply Alene! Even after trying on the BOSE yesterday for 10 minutes, I could still feel the pressure clamping on my head for the rest of the day. I had such an intense headache all day. I’m noticing a trend, that often older models of products - especially tech, are better for us sensitive / migraine / ASD folks.
I’ve read some reviews about Soundcore by Anker Life Q35 Multi Mode Active Noise Cancelling Headphones that sound promising - they offer lots of cushioning and rotating ear pads. So they may be my next choice!?
I love my AirPods and also in ear Loops for sound reduction. But sometimes I need that full noise cancellation only an over ear headphone can provide. I find they are also useful as a signal to not be approached for conversation on difficult days!
I may have to do the Cinderella and try a few options until I get the perfect fit! I find large stores too overwhelming for try ons, and also the store demos can often be stretched over time too.
I’d love to hear more of other community member’s experiences.

      1. keep us posted on your search, we'd love to hear your review of the Soundcore, if you decide to try them out. And yes, I imagine others will join the conversation as well with their experience and recommendations. Thanks again for sparking up this conversation.
