Can Chronic Migraine Last Every Moment You're Awake?

I have had pain behind my eyes for nine months. CT scan fine, no problem with eyes other than glaucoma, antibiotics and steroids haven't helped. Now the pain is constant every day. Saw a Neurologist yesterday and started on Amitriptyline and diagnosed with migraines. I don't have classic episodes and attacks (I have auras without pain and had one horribly painful attack), so I can't say when a headache starts or ends. Any advice? Thank you so much.

  1. Hi creekgirl,

I'm sorry you've been in extended pain. That is so exhausting and frustrating.

A migraine attack actually has four phases; prodrome, aura, headache and postdrome and not everyone will experience each phase with each attack. I'm not sure if you're saying you always have aura (is that visual) or pain all the time? Let me know and I can give you more information.

You may want to start keeping a detailed migraine diary to see exactly what's going on symptom and pattern wise with these attacks. We have information here on how to do this; https://migraine.com/blog/keeping-migraine-diary-basics/.
Please let me know what you think,
    Nancy

    1. Hi again,

Yes, unfortunately some people have pain 24/7.
