Relaxing whilst suffering from a migraine

Anyone know how to relax whilst dealing with a migraine? At the moment, I can't - not helped by the fact that whilst suffering with a migraine, I can't look down without the pain getting worse and most of my normal methods of relaxation (knitting, crochet, writing) involve looking down. (the other thing would be watching robotic combat, but that involves looking at a screen) Any tips?

  1. Hi there- this is a great question. A real challenge given the parameters you have. We posed this question to the community recently in the form of a video and had a good amount of community feedback in the comment section that follows the video: https://migraine.com/video/secret-distraction. You might skim it to see if any of those ideas sound appealing/doable. Podcasts and audiobooks came up numerous times. As did painting, among many other ideas. It made me wonder if you could fashion something - like an easel - to put at eye-level so that you could still at least do writing and not look down? It is so hard when we are experiencing high-level pain and other complex neurological symptoms when we are limited from options to distract ourselves from that pain. I often (as you'll see or hear in the video) will put the TV on with the screen brightness down just to listen to it and use my imagination about what's happening on screen. Anything to take me out of my head/body. I'm not certain robotic combat would be the kind of thing you could simply listen to and still follow without watching. Let us know if any of the ideas provided in that video sounds plausible. Thinking of you and sending you warmth and compassion. - Holly (migraine.com team).

    1. Thanks for that. The easel suggestion is definitely one to look into. Hopefully that will help matters.
