Salt induced migraine

I’ve been a migraine sufferer since I was 16. I just turned 71 and now find that any amount of salt/sodium can cause a migraine. While Imirex relieves the headache, I’m taking way too much. I’m struggling with this as I can’t seem to determine how much salt/sodium is too much and pushes me over the top into a migraine. Sometimes I’m able to eat a little bit and then sometimes not. Eating out is a nightmare. Are there other medicines out there that release migraines without the side effects of imitrex? BTW I live in the middle of nowhere with a small clinic nearby. The closest neurologist is five 1/2 hours (each way) away. Thanks for any help.

  1. Hi there , Thanks for your question & for reaching out. Treatment effectiveness and side effects certainly vary greatly from person to person, but don't give up hope! There are many treatments that can be considered. Here is an overview for your reference. -

Additionally, this resource provides a comprehensive overview of foods to eat & to avoid. -

Hope some of this is helpful.
