Should I be worried?

Hi everyone. This is all very new to me, I have never suffered from any sort of migraine up until 2 weeks ago. I was out with a friend one night and I suddenly lost vision in one eye. The next morning, it was worse. Started in one eye then went onto both. It was awful, made me feel extremely nauseas. I panicked and phoned the optician. They said my eyes looked very healthy and this is when they told me I was suffering from visual migraines. Said if I got it regularly or it got worse, to contact my GP. I am worrying about it now as it is happening too often. I am finding that I am light sensitive during these episodes and I need to sit or lie down with my eyes closed until it passes. Would really like to hear your own personal experiences and advice please.

  1. Hi ashdole,

    Thank you for being here and sharing your story with us.

    Visual issues can be very alarming, I'm happy to hear you had an eye exam and everything was OK.

    If you haven't seen your GP yet, it sounds like the next logical step seeing as you said these attacks have been happening more often. Once we have an accurate diagnosis, we can get the proper treatment and learn all we can about migraine disease. It's better to treat migraine disease early, to avoid becoming chronic.

    Light sensitivity, certain foods, changes in the barometric pressure, skipping meals, smoking, alcohol, irregular sleeping patterns, dehydration can all trigger a migraine attack. Have you noticed a correlation?

    There are glasses specifically designed for people who are light sensitive that are very helpful for some. Two companies make these that I'm aware of, TheraSpecs and Axon Optics. I have a pair of outdoor sunglasses and LOVE THEM. You can read more in this link;

    Please let me know how you make out,
