When do you stop spending money ?

I had a really long and thorough question written and it got lost so here is the short version . When do you stop paying out of pocket for chronic migraine care ? In addition to medical covered treatment I spend between 7-10 thousand a year in chronic migraine and pain management (mostly homeopathic type stuff but some is medical that insurance won’t cover). I’m currently in a ton of debt but can’t imagine not trying anything possible to help me. I have migraines about 25 days a month even with the care I have now. What is your advice ? Thank you

  1. Hi melaniederks,

    Thank you for your question, which is not an easy one. I understand how difficult it is to have a chronic illness (s) and cover medications and treatments. I'm not sure there is an easy answer to this.

    There are pharmaceutical companies that have saving programs for some migraine medications. There are also a few patient assistance programs to help with the cost of prescriptions. I'm going to list a few of these below;
    http://www.needymeds.org/
    http://www.janssenprescriptionassistance.com/
    https://www.pparx.org/
    http://www.rxassist.org/

    I also get samples of my abortive from my doctor, that may be something to think about. Allergan offers a Botox savings card I know many patients take advantage of that brings to cost down quite a bit.

    I wish I had a better answer for you and hopefully others will be along shortly to share their experiences with you.

    Nancy
