Surgery Scheduled Need Advice!

I have a surgery scheduled in the next couple of weeks for a torn rotator cuff. That will be fun enough, but I have a bit of anxiety about pain medication during/after surgery. A few years ago I had a hysterectomy where my doctor gave me Percocet in the hospital and one day after surgery I got the worst migraine of my life and was back in the hospital. I was told that Percocet was probably the worst medication to take for pain relief since I am a chronic migraine sufferer. I wanted to check in with the community to see if you have any advice for surgery/post-surgery pain management. I have not had this conversation with my orthopedic doctor yet. Thanks all!

  1. Hi @missi.cunningham! We hope that you are doing well! I am not sure if you have had your surgery just yet, but wanted to let you know that we are thinking of you. I feel your anxiety about which pain medication that you may be given post operation! Have you had a chance to speak with your headache specialist or neurologist about what you should consider asking your surgeon prior to surgery and after? I am sharing with you a link with resources to consider when in the hospital as well: https://migraine.com/living-migraine/treatment-guidelines-for-the-er/! Sending you healing hugs. -Lawrence (Migraine.com Team)
