ALPHA GAL!
So...I've been dealing with a seizure disorder for 5 years. Haven't been able to work, can barely attend Ross's sporting events, family events, and If I did, it would never end well for me. I thought I was losing my mind, I lost myself. My passion for hunting and doing things that I love, and am about to lose my home if things don't change soon. I started a keto/carnivore diet last month and eliminated all sugar and carbs thinking it would help with the seizures. However, 15 -20 minutes after I ate, I would still have a seizure like before, but non stop, clusters and felt like crap with no energy for 24-7, nauseated, vertigo, smoky aura in my eyes, eyes rolling around in my head. Seeing images, colors, hearing voices, bangs, crashes, smelling burned oatmeal, wires, smoke, gas fumes, cig smoke. Cognitive problems. Ocular, hemeplegic, vestibular migraines...I thought I was losing my mind and watching the World pass me by thinking that this is NOT how I was expecting to spend the rest of my life... Alone, miserable, and crazy lol. My hard head wasn't helping me get through life anymore. It was worn out. My brain was tired and couldn't think for itself anymore. I gave up. So I mentioned it to my wonderful, smart Daughter in law Mallory, whom is a Physicians assistant and she suggested testing for Alpha Gal. I got the results yesterday morning. POSITIVE... Is this what has been debilitating me and my whole world as I knew it for the past 5 years? Crazy. My body has pretty much been in anaphylactic shock this whole time..please get tested if you have any of these symptoms..especially the runny nose and tight throat.

  1. that throat tightening symptom you had mentioned previously immediately made me think of allergy. It's great you have some further information about this!

Do you ever recall being bitten by a tick? I had to google Alpha Gal, and found this article from the Mayo Clinic. Every day is a school day! https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/alpha-gal-syndrome/symptoms-causes/syc-20428608

What is the next step for you? It will be interesting to see, if you eliminate the trigger for that element of your symptoms, if your migraine changes! Do keep us posted!

    1. I have learned that even the blood pressure med and vitamin capsules that I've been taking have been causing reactions. I have adjusted my diet based upon the fb groups and support from fellow friends that have it. They recommend a chiro in the area that offers SAAT acupuncture for the condition. This makes so much sense because when I was still working a couple years ago, I would sit at the lunch table and eat with my coworkers and within 15-20 mins I was having a spell at the table. I thought it was a blood sugar spike. I honestly don't know how my body and brain has survived being on PEAK ALERT for 5 years. Hair standing on end, sensations, chest pains, severe anxiety, mood swings, and I started menopause too. I can now show myself some grace for those times I thought I was being weak or lazy or thought that I should push harder and that it was in my head. This is all I got from my primary. No follow up or instructions . Im looking into a new primary today.

  2. Alpha Gal can explain so much of what you’ve been going through. Your daughter-in-law sounds like a lifesaver for suggesting the test. I hope now that you know what’s causing it, things can start to turn around for you. Thanks for sharing your story-it could help someone else get tested and find relief too.

    1. thank you for being so supportive of a fellow member!! I hope that you are doing well tonight. (Tonya, team member).

    2. so glad that she suggested you ask for that test. I have seen that those fresh in the field, are sometimes better than the ones who started so long ago. Of course, it is because the training/schooling is further along, which is great. I am so glad that she knew about it and suggested you get tested!! Hang in there. (Tonya, team member).
