Topiramate for migraines, does it help?
I have tried several medications for migraines. the one I've been on longest is an older one butalbital acetaminophen 50/325 taken 4x daily. but it is not working so well. my dr. prescribed topriamate 100 mg. been scared to try it because it MAY caude low blood pressure and since I live alone am scared of perhaps passing out. please give me your answers on if it works for you and any side effects. thank you
I have been on Elavil for 2 years and I LOVE it..However the last month or so I have felt like it wasn't working as well. Meaning my mood dropped a bit, it wasn't helping me sleep as well and I ended up after the last 2 years of being migraine free, it came back. Not as bad though but I went to my neurologist anyway today and he is upping my dose. I started at 25mg
I have been on topiramate (100mg) for about 5 months - and i have been really satisfied with it. I used to have about 2-5 seizures a week before, now i'm down too 2.
I'm now, however because of work and stress in a bad period having more seizures and are propably going to get a higher dosis to 150mg pr day - i have a consult with my neuro next week.
The only side effects i have been experiencing is a bit of weightloss and i have been a bit more forget full sometimes.
I dont feel tired or havent expirenced any low bloodpressure.
I have been through 5 other diffient medications, and this i the only thing that has worked for me so far.
I was on topiramate for a short time early in my treatment and it worked very well. Unfortunately, I am one of the people in which topiramate induces glaucoma.
Unfortunately, it just seems like you need to try it because everyone responds to (or fails to respond to) preventives in their own unique way. Topomax increased my migraine-related brain fog and forgetfulness in a way that became unbearable, but I know that doesn't happen to everyone. Just know that you really need to titrate up/down with this one.
