Years of Agony

6-1-18 I began with acute pain on the right side of my head. After 3 months of being misdiagnosed, I saw a neurologist... Chronic migraine disorder. I never had a headache. 20 headaches/month. After doing all the levels of multiple pills and injections, I qualified for Botox. No results until the third full set. I had my life back after 4 years. The next full set lead to a neck that was atrophied for 4 weeks. I am due again, but not sure if I should try. I have had headaches and nausea, but the intensity is not as severe. I wish I knew what to do.

  1. , I'm sorry to hear how you have been suffering. I understand what it's like to face pitfalls in the migraine management journey. Have you discussed your neck atrophy with your neurologist yet? If they are administering your Botox injections, they may be able to make small adjustments to the injection sites. Taking time to have a good discussion with your doctor that covers your symptoms, concerns, and how migraine disease impacts your life is important. There are hundreds of treatment options out there for us these days. We are here to support you as you explore what is available to you. Warmly, Cheryl migraine.com team

    1. Thank you for caring. Yes, I saw her back in the office a few days afterwards to talk about this. She did a physical exam and then said she was going to inject other areas instead of the back of my head by the hairline. my greatest concern is that I need to do this Wednesday afternoon for my set since october. In October I got my life back after 4 years of laying in bed with terrible headaches. Has anyone had these injections and had really good success like that and then had side effects from Botox? If there's any way you can get that out there and have people text me I would be so grateful. I'm a little concerned about going in and going through that again. My neck was atrophied for 4 weeks and I had a hard time holding my head up. It felt like a bowling ball and I still encountered probably eight headaches in the last 3 months. I don't understand why the injections would work in July when I received my first full set, and then I went back in October I had to deal with more headaches and an atrophied neck I hope there's someone out there who can help me understand if the reaction to the injections is troublesome each time you are injected. I would forever grateful for finding whether botox is worth the risk or not.
      Blessings, Mary

        1. I'm sorry to hear about your difficulties with Botox, Mary. Hopefully now that you've communicated with your doctor about what's happened, they will be able to tailor your Botox treatment accordingly. Thankfully (if there were any upsides to this) the effects of Botox are temporary. If you keep talking to your doctor about what you like about treatment, and what you don't like, I can imagine you will eventually find the right spots for your injections that help reduce your headaches.
